▼ Report: Jeff Koons Dies In Tokyo Blast

30 minutes ago a friend who works at Artforum phoned me to say they were receiving messages from a Japanese news agency that Jeff Koons has died in Tokyo. His car was pulling away from his Tokyo hotel around 5pm eastern standard time. A large explosion was reported as far as fifteen miles away. My friend noted that the Japanese press is not releasing the story at this time, waiting for Koons’ family here in New York to be notified. The editors at Artforum are reportedly debating releasing the story before the Japanese press makes the announcement.

A strange twist in the events is that a Brooklyn art terrorist group recently identified as a cult by U.S. authorities is believed to have been linked to the tragic accident.

ain’t nowhere else on the web….
If it’s true you broke it first…

seems hard to believe…terrorism for Koons? why bother?

  2. 02/09/2010 10:52 pm

    And on further searching….
No news of any Tokyo explosion, especially a large one

And nothing on an ‘art terrorist cult in Brooklyn’; let’s face it the whole biz-ness is a cult whether the gov’ment thinks so or not. Plenty of willing virgins for the sacrificing…

So is it fake or what? Cause I’ll be pretty pissed off if its true, and pissed off if its not.

I have just been in direct contact w/ a source from a reliable Tokyo news agency – koons was in fact staying at a hotel in tokyo, and there was a loud explosion reported. He has no further info on the possible death of Jeff Koons, but he says the neighborhood near koon’s hotel has been blocked off by investigators. He… says news will be slow. We may not hear anything solid for a few hours.

if you’re calling it a ‘possible death’ (in the quote above), you should update the title of the ‘report.’ and still no mention of anything on google news or twitter, which i find hard to believe. if it’s a hoax, even if it’s part of a larger conceptual work/commentary, that’s pretty lame.

my initial source is reliable. and for now all new information supports the intial report.

A source at Artforum is reporting that the remains of Jeff Koons have been found in the wreckage of the Tokyo explosion that cut his life short. TONIGHT – 6pm. There will be a memorial service at Gagosian’s Chelsea gallery in NYC.

Koons upheld the christian values and work ethic of American society.

  11. 02/10/2010 2:51 pm

People who search twitter for “Jeff Koons” sympathize with the loss felt by Koons’ staff and family.

  12. 02/10/2010 3:06 pm

why do something so inane, so half-assed? The cult is horrible! Koons symbolized the future of American art. His work made me happy, as if he had emptied the contents of a shopping mall into the form of a balloon dog.

Where will we get the beauty of our culture from now?

  17. 02/10/2010 4:51 pm

From former President George W. Bush: “Koons was the only contemporary artist who made things I could understand. I pray to the Lord almighty, please send us another talent.”

I was there!, I was sitting in a chair in my roof garden, and I heard a massive explosion, I could feel the heat, it almost singed my hair! I looked over the edge of my roof and there was a burning car right below me. It was flaming and the engine was still revving so loudly, I think it was a Toyota, maybe it had something to do with the brake pedal getting stuck, the engine totally overheated and caught fire or something maybe it ignited the gas tank! Who knew that jeff koons would actually be travelling in a car right outside my building!

Damien, did you change my post? I didn’t write “I just saw your new posts… can’t believe he’s gone.” I realized after your new posts that quoted Saltz and George Bush that is was B.S. Oh, and after I googled it. Not cool.
